Talking and telling about adoption – The importance of identity, and Life Story Books - Training

Course description

It is difficult to grow up as a psychologically healthy adult if one is denied access to one's history

(Vera Fahlberg - A Child’s Journey through Placement).

History gives us a sense of who we are, so that we can live comfortably in the present and plan for the future.

Talking to your child about their birth family and journey into your family can be challenging and an emotional experience. We will be thinking about adoption and how we can help our children to process their adoption journey; this will include questions such as, what do we tell, when do we tell and how?

We will be thinking about elements of the life story book and later life letter and how you can use other resources and tools to help your children to gain an understanding of how they came to be a part of your family.
