Support for adopted adults

Access to birth records for adopted adults

Accessing adoption records can evoke a wide range of emotions. Everyone’s experience is unique, and we want you to know that you’re not alone.

Whether you're seeking answers, connection, or closure, we are here to support you through this journey. We’re interested in hearing about your experience, and we aim to provide you with a safe space to explore your story.

Part of our role is to support you in a way that feels helpful, respectful, and compassionate. Whether you're just beginning to explore your records or have been searching for a while, we’re here to listen, guide, and walk alongside you.

If you’re 18 years old or older, and live in an ACE area (Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Solihull and Coventry) our specialist team is available to assist you further.

If you live outside our region, please contact your local Regional Adoption Agency (RAA) or Adoption Support Team who can support you in accessing your records.

We understand that accessing adoption records can be a deeply personal and sometimes challenging experience. It may bring up feelings of:

  • Disappointment if the information is limited or unexpected
  • Confusion about identity, relationships, or history
  • Sadness or grief for what was lost or unknown
  • Hope for connection, understanding, or closure

This process isn’t always straightforward and that’s okay. We’re here to help you navigate it.

Our commitment to you

  • We offer clear, step-by-step guidance through the process
  • We provide emotional support tailored to your needs
  • We respect your pace and your story

We understand that your experience of adoption and identity may be shaped by many different factors including your race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality, disability, and life circumstances that affect:

  • How you relate to your birth family and heritage
  • What traditions and cultural practices are meaningful to you
  • How you interpret medical or genetic information
  • The kind of support and understanding you need

We are committed to creating a space that is inclusive, respectful, and responsive to the diverse experiences of everyone who accesses adoption records.

Our approach

  • We listen without judgment
  • We tailor support to your unique needs and background
  • We collaborate with culturally competent and trauma-informed professionals
  • We continuously learn and adapt to better serve all communities

Your story is valid. Your identity matters. And we’re here to support you every step of the way.
