ACE welcomes enquiries from a diverse range of applicants. Anyone can be considered as potential adopters providing they are over 21 years.
Adoption Central England (ACE) is the regional adoption agency for Coventry, Warwickshire, Solihull and Worcestershire local authorities. ACE currently has a wide range of children who need a loving permanent adoptive home.
Only 15% of currently approved adopters are from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. So who can adopt?
ACE welcomes enquiries from a diverse range of applicants. Anyone can be considered as potential adopters providing they are over 21 years. It doesn’t matter whether you are married or single, in or out of work, or whatever your race, religion or sexuality. We would also consider applications from people living outside the local authority boundaries, foster carers who would like to adopt and returning adopters.
We are specifically looking for adopters of children of black and minority ethnic backgrounds, children over 4 years, sibling groups to ensure brothers and sisters stay together and children with complex needs.
Adopters will need plenty of patience, humour and energy. Most importantly, you need to be determined to give a child or children the sort of support that will really make a difference to their lives.
Adopting with ACE means that you will have access to:
- advice and information
- regular support groups for adopters
- workshops and training on topics of interest
- services in relation to therapeutic needs of a child
- the Adopter’s Mentoring Service
- packages of therapeutic intervention or parenting support.
Brenda Vincent, Lead Manager for ACE said “We urgently need more adopters for the children in our care. If you are interested in adoption we will work with you to give a child or children a new beginning, and make sure that you can provide a child or children with the permanency and security that they need. We commit to giving you an offer of support at any time you may need it. You can reach out to us at any point from your child’s early years through to their adolescence and beyond.”
Ruth, an adopter with ACE said “My experience of being assessed for adoption was a positive experience, there was a lot of paperwork, and there was a lot of talking about myself – but ultimately I felt it was all done so that my social worker could get a real picture on who I was as a person. The process was well managed, communication was excellent, and I felt in safe hands throughout.”
